Can PrimeVOLT Inverter connect to thin-film module?
There are 2 kinds of thin-film module: Amorphous and CIGS. Their different structure leads to different solution.
Amorphous: Since its structure is different from the crystal system (single crystal and polycrystalline) modules, a low frequency transformer must be installed between inverter AC output terminal and electric supply and be grounded in PV + or PV – terminal. The isolation can prevent TCO from being corroded when amorphous is connected to transformerless inverter. Currently there are also amorphous module (such as FIRST SOLAR) on the market which needs no low-frequency transformer. In this case, please contact to the module suppliers for further confirmation.
CIGS: Since CIGS does not have (serious) TCO corrosion problem, most of modules on the market are available to connect to our inverter. However, for your safety, please confirm again with the module supplier before you match it with transformerless inverter.
Is there any restriction or precaution to install PrimeVOLT inverter?
All of PrimeVOLT inverters are equipped with single-piece die-casting aluminum chasiss without welding process. It performs advantageously in harsh environment by its compact and durable design. The chasiss and heat sink are forming to be excellent for thermal cooling.
Especially the surface is using Anti-UV/Anti-corrosion painting to protect from the corrosion, so there are almost no restrictions on the outdoor high humidity environment.
Nevertheless, please pay attention to the flowing in order to get the best results:
1)Avoid direct sunlight
Direct sunlight will rise up the temperature of the inverter. Once if temperature is too high, the inverter will start self-protection to reduce the output power resulting in power generation loss.
2)Ensure heat elimination and ventilation
We don’t suggest inerter installed inside a box since that will cause the inverter temperature rising up and output power reduced due to lack enough space.
How PrimeVOLT inverter links to internet for cloud monitoring?
There are several kinds of communication interface as below to link PrimeVOLT inverter.
1)Ethernet RJ45: apply to small installation and has network server near to inverter.
2)RS485: apply to big installation and multiple inverters are installed together.
3)WiFi (optional): apply to the area/building where is covered by strong wifi signal.
When using RS485, please make sure to follow manual settings and use the twisted wires, terminating resistor and half-duplex (Half-Duplex) interface.
When using Ethernet, please pay attention to assign IP address on inverter.
When using Wi-Fi, please use the USB Wi-Fi dongle which is specified by PrimeVOLT.
How is the recommendation to overload PrimeVOLT Inverters?
To increase power generation with a PrimeVOLT inverter, it is recommended to use the “overload” ratio 1.0 ~ 1.3 of the inverter nominal output power.
The maximum inverter “overload” ratio is 1.36.
It is also important to consider the system type for optimum configuration.
1) On tracker systems – ratio 1.0 ~ 1.1
2) Ground (good air flow) – ratio 1.0 ~ 1.2
3) Rooftop (air flow is bad, high temperature) – ratio 1.0 ~ 1.3
This is due to the fact that at a higher temperature, the output power of photovoltaic modules will be decreased.
For example:
The power coefficient of module is -0.44% / K (@ 25℃). If module temperature = 65℃, output power will decrease by 0.44 * (65-25) = 17.6%. 300 W panel will reduce its power to 300 * 82.4% = 247 watts.
Without voiding the manufacturer’s warranty, the open circuit voltage of the string modules should not exceed the maximum input voltage of the inverter under any case. (Temperature, irradiance…)
